(Detroit, MI) -- Chrysler is backpedaling on a decision not to recall nearly three-million Jeep SUVs. The automaker had been battling the federal government for weeks over the request. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says gas tanks behind the axles can lead to fires in an accident. The recall covers Grand Cherokee models from 1993 to 2004 and Liberty models from 2002 to 2007. The decision to back down on the standoff was made today.
