NEWPORT, R.I. (AP) _ The Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority is scheduled to vote on a toll structure for the Sakonnet River Bridge.
The Newport Daily News reports the agency is set to vote on a plan Wednesday morning that recommends setting the toll at 75 cents for Rhode Island drivers with an E-ZPass transponder. Drivers from elsewhere who use an E-ZPass transponder would have to pay $3.75. Those without a transponder would pay $5.25.
David Darlington, chair of the authority, is recommending the amounts.
He says they hope to start collecting tolls as early as July.
Many local residents oppose putting tolls on the bridge, but officials say they need the money to maintain it.
