Providence Man sentenced for Wrong-Way Crash

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) _ A 25-year-old Providence man has been sentenced to four years in prison for causing a wrong-way crash that killed a 40-year-old city resident.

Corey Johnston pleaded guilty in District Court in Providence to driving while intoxicated resulting in death.

Domenic Izzi of Providence was killed in the early-morning crash on Interstate 95 in March, 2012 just after the drummer had finished playing a gig at a city nightclub with his band, Therapy.

Police say the Johnston had been drinking at a bar on Water Street just prior to the accident and had a blood alcohol level nearly three times the legal limit.

Prior to being sentenced, Johnston told the court that the shame, guilt and remorse his feels will never be removed and that he deserved to be punished.
