PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) _ Rhode Island's governor says he is shocked and saddened that two people were killed and at least 80 injured in explosions near the finish line of the Boston Marathon.
Gov. Lincoln Chafee said Monday he does not know of any Rhode Islanders injured in the blasts. He says the state is sending thoughts and prayers to the victims and their families and "all our neighbors in Massachusetts.''
Chafee says officials with the state Emergency Management Agency, Rhode Island National Guard and state police are in contact with their counterparts in Massachusetts and have offered their support.
A RIEMA spokeswoman says the agency is ready and available if help is needed.
The explosions took place several hours after the marathon winners finished the race.
