PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) _ Providence police are searching for suspects in the shooting of a convicted murderer.
Authorities told The Providence Journal that 41-year-old Troy Lassiter was found lying in the street near the corner of Atwells and Sears avenues at about 3 p.m. Monday. Police say he's being treated at Rhode Island Hospital and is expected to survive.
Lassiter pleaded no contest to murder and other charges in the 1996 shooting death of David Andrews in Providence and served more than seven years in prison.
Police say the suspect who shot Lassiter fled westbound on Atwells Avenue and may have given the gun to someone in a car.
Lassiter's shooting was the 24th shooting in the city this year and one of five shootings from Sunday to Tuesday.
