CRANSTON, R.I. (AP) — Gubernatorial candidate Gina Raimondo has released her plan for the public transit system in Rhode Island.

The Democratic treasurer unveiled her plan Thursday at the Knightsville Manor in Cranston.

If elected, Raimondo said she would find a stable, sustainable funding formula for the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority, work to attract more riders and review the routes.

She said she would also explore opportunities for public private partnerships for public transit, invest in transit hubs, and work with cities and towns on development projects near these hubs.

Raimondo said safe, reliable public transportation "provides a pathway to opportunity," and "we're not doing a good enough job paving that pathway right now."

Other Democrats running include Providence Mayor Angel Taveras and former Obama administration official Clay Pell.
