PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — The Republican running for mayor of Providence against two-time felon and independent candidate Buddy Cianci says he's staying in the race until Election Day, but he still might vote for the Democrat.
Daniel Harrop has flirted throughout the campaign with dropping out to help consolidate support for Democrat Jorge Elorza — and to keep Cianci from winning.
On Wednesday, Harrop says he's not dropping out, but he's still struggling about whether to vote for himself or Elorza on Tuesday.
He says many good Republicans are planning to vote for Elorza because of concern about corruption, and says he has no hard feelings if anyone votes for Elorza.
Harrop recently gave a $1,000 donation to Elorza's campaign.
Cianci went to prison for more than four years for presiding over widespread corruption.
