PORTSMOUTH, R.I. (AP) _ A Grand jury has returned a murder indictment against a Providence man charged with stabbing his ex-wife to death on a public bus in Portsmouth.
Authorities say 46-year-old Christopher James got on a Rhode Island Public Transit Authority bus bound from Providence to Newport on Feb. 27 and stabbed 46-year-old Terry Chiodo to death with a 12-inch knife.
James has been held without bail since his arrest. He's scheduled to be arraigned in Washington County Superior Court on July 22.
Authorities say James has a criminal record that includes arrests for felony assault, assault on a person over 60, resisting arrest and drunken driving.
He served several short stints in prison and was on probation for an assault at the time of the attack.
