Man sentenced to 2 life terms for 2012 RI shooting

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — A man convicted on murder charges following a deadly shooting outside a Providence nightclub last year has been sentenced to two consecutive life sentences.

Attorney General Peter Kilmartin announced the sentence for 24-year-old Terrel Barros on Wednesday.

A jury found Barros guilty of murder, assault with a deadly weapon and related firearms charges in July.

Authorities say Barros, of Fairhaven, Mass, fatally shot 38-year-old Jamal Cruz following what they say was a minor verbal dispute in the parking lot of the Monet Lounge in August 2012. A second man was injured by gunfire.

Kilmartin says Cruz identified Barros as the shooter before he died.
