More flyers used RI's T.F. Green Airport in 2013

WARWICK, R.I. (AP) — New statistics from T.F. Green Airport show more passengers traveled through Rhode Island's main airport last year than the year before.

The airport says passenger traffic went up by more than 4 percent in 2013 compared with 2012. It's the first time in eight years the airport has seen an increase in year-over-year passenger numbers.

Airport officials say the recession was primarily responsible for the decline in passengers. High aviation fuel and airline mergers also played a role in the reduced number of flights.

Kelly Fredericks, president of the Rhode Island Airport Corp., says the numbers are an encouraging sign that the airport is on the rebound.

Overall, 3.8 million passengers used T.F. Green last year, compared with 3.7 million in 2012.
