NORTH PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) _ A North Providence High School student riding his bicycle has died after a collision with a car.

WJAR-TV reports that Justin Santiago was killed late Wednesday. School officials announced the death over the public address system on Thursday morning.

Capt. Daniel Cennamo tells The Associated Press the accident took place around 11:10 p.m. He said a car traveling on Waterman Avenue collided with a cyclist at the intersection with Woodcliff Avenue. He said the cyclist was pronounced dead at Rhode Island Hospital but did not release the victim's name.

Cennamo said an investigation with state police is continuing.

Principal Joseph Goho said the 16-year-old freshman was jovial, polite and respectful and had a close circle of friends. He said counselors are on hand to help students deal with the loss.
