PORTSMOUTH, R.I. (AP) _ A group of Portsmouth, R.I. officials are heading across the Atlantic this week to attend the installation of the lord mayor in Portsmouth, England.
The Newport Daily News reports the group will be extending an official invitation to Lynne Stagg to attend the Rhode Island town's 375th anniversary celebration this summer.
Stagg has already informed the town she plans to attend the events in Rhode Island on Labor Day weekend, which include a reception at Glen Manor House; a parade, and a polo match between the United States and England at the Gardner Seveney Sports Complex.
Seven Portsmouth officials will be part of the Rhode Island delegation, which leaves Friday for the south coast of England.
The town says no public money is being used for the trip.
