Providence Public Library reopening on Sundays

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — The Providence Public Library is celebrating its seasonal re-opening on Sundays with special tours of its historic building.

The downtown library will be open to patrons on Sunday afternoons starting this weekend.

To highlight the reopening, the library is holding two guided historic and architectural tours of its building on Sunday afternoon. The tours are free and open to the public.

The library opened in the Venetian Renaissance building on Washington Street in 1900. The building is on the National Register of Historic Places.

The library first opened in 1878 on the second floor of the Butler Exchange in what is now Kennedy Plaza.
