PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) _ A vocational program in Providence that provides education and job skills training to young people who dropped out of school has been awarded $1.1 million in federal funds.
YouthBuild Providence will use the U.S. Department of Labor funding over the next two years to help provide at least 64 18- to 24-year-olds with academic training and on-site work experience in the construction trades.
U.S. Sen. Jack Reed announced the money on Monday.
YouthBuild Providence Director Anthony Hubbard says dozens of young adults rely on the program to get educational and occupational skills that will help them prepare for college and the workforce.
YouthBuild is part of the Providence Plan and has partnerships with the Providence school system and the Community College of Rhode Island.
