RI Arts Council and Community Programs Get $765K

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) _ The Rhode Island State Council on the Arts and several community arts programs are getting a total of $765,000 in federal funds to support arts programs throughout the state.
 
The state arts council is getting $675,300 from the National Endowment for the Arts. Smaller grants are going to WaterFire, which is getting $50,000 to expand activities during river lightings; Community MusicWorks, which will use $20,000 to support free music education programs for at-risk youth; Brown University, which is getting $10,000 for a "dance legacy'' project; and Island Moving Company, which will use $10,000 to support expansion of a dance and arts festival.
 
The New England Foundation for the Arts is also getting a $1 million NEA grant.
 
Rhode Island's congressional delegation announced the funding on Thursday.
