RI cities to receive share of recycling profits

JOHNSTON, R.I. (AP) — Rhode Island's cities and towns are set to receive their cut of revenue from the state's recycling program.

Democratic Gov. Lincoln Chafee and other Rhode Island leaders will formally distribute the money to each of the state's 39 municipalities on Monday.

The Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corp. manages the state's recycling program and hands out portions of the profit to each local government every year.

Municipalities received nearly $2 million last year, with Providence taking in the largest share, some $204,000.

Monday's event is scheduled to take place at the state's recycling center in Johnston.
