PAWTUCKET, R.I. (AP) — Pawtucket police say a man's ear was bitten off during a fight outside a nightclub.

Maj. Arthur Martins says it happened late Saturday outside the Met nightclub.

He tells The Pawtucket Times that 21-year-old Nicholas Parlee of Providence and his friend, 43-year-old Jeremy Hilton of Pawtucket, got into an argument while leaving the club. Martins says Parlee grabbed Hilton's head and bit his ear completely off.

Hilton and his ear were brought to Rhode Island Hospital. A hospital spokeswoman says Hilton was treated in the emergency room and released. She wouldn't say whether doctors reattached his ear.

Parlee was charged with mutilation or disabling and was being held at the ACI. It was unclear whether he has a lawyer.
